The Tuscaloosa Backpack Coalition was formed to provide backpacks and school supplies to students with the most need in Tuscaloosa City and County Schools. Many partners in this Coalition have provided backpacks & school supplies to area students for the past 10 years. By pooling our physical, financial, intellectual and influential resources together we can service more of the need in our community while minimizing duplication.
TBC Partners Include: A Few United Men, Area Back to School Connection (ABC 123), Daughters of Destiny,
Hope for my City, Ministerial Alliance,Operation Comfort, Salvation Army, Temporary Emergency Services, Tuscaloosa County Area Churches, Tuscaloosa City Schools, Tuscaloosa County Children’s Policy Council, Tuscaloosa County Schools, Tuscaloosa’s One Place and Tuscaloosa’s Promise.
Apples for Education Campaign 2014:
- University Mall- Friday, July 11- Sunday, July 27
- Red Apples – Adopt a “Red Apple” representing a student & purchase the grade level supplies needed on the supply list.
- Green Apples – Each “Green Apple” represents one dollar donated toward the purchase of backpacks and supplies. These apples can be “purchased" at University Mall, Center Court.
- Area businesses and churches are encouraged to use the “Green” apples to receive donations toward the collection of supplies and/or adopt some “Red” apples & purchase the required grade level supplies.
Financial Donations: Checks for donations can be made to Hope For My City or Tuscaloosa’s One Place for charitable contribution credit.
Look for Collection Bins in Area Businesses and Churches! Thank you for your support in this worthwhile community effort for our students!
