The tallest building in the city of Providence and the state of Rhode Island, and the 28th tallest in New England.
Formally known as the Industrial Trust Tower, 111 Westminster is the central figure in Providence’s distinct skyline. Built in 1927, it stands as the tallest building in Providence at 27 stories. In the spring of 2013, Bank of America vacated the 111 Westminster property leaving this iconic buildings future uncertain.
High Rock Development, the owner of 111 Westminster Street, (sometimes referred to as the “Superman Building”) in Providence, RI announced the renewal of efforts to renovate the iconic vacant building and turn it into an important catalyst for revitalization and future economic growth in Rhode Island.
High Rock Development, along with the 111 Westminster Development Team is proposing a public private partnership to save the dormant building and renovate it into much needed urban apartments with workplaces and commercial space on street level floors. The project is expected to create hundreds of jobs and brings millions of dollars in tax revenue to the state.
“I’ve acknowledged my loss from the purchase of the building, but I am still interested in moving forward to repurpose this building because I believe in Providence and I believe in Rhode Island. We think our plan to create new housing will help both the City and the State grow the new economy and return the building to its former prominence in Providence.”
