826 Valencia is a nonprofit organization dedicated to inspiring young people to write. Oh, and a Pirate Supply Store, which partially funds our programs.
826 Valencia is a nonprofit organization based on Valencia Street in San Francisco (our name is our address) dedicated to building creative and expository writing skills in students ages 6-18, and to helping teachers inspire their students to write. We work in schools all over San Francisco, offer after-school tutoring in all subjects, host storytelling and bookmaking field trips and offer writing workshops in the evenings and on weekends. Our services are structured around the understanding that great leaps in learning can happen with one-on-one attention and that strong writing skills are fundamental to future success.
We also have a Pirate Supply Store, offering wares for the working buccaneer. Right. Like peg legs. We also sell publications of our students' writing, and the proceeds from the store partially fund our programs. Come by the store any day between 12 and 6 p.m to learn more, and check out 826valencia.org if you're interested in volunteering or participating in our programs.
