"Alice" is Alice Roosevelt Longworth, the first-born daughter of President Theordore Roosevelt and summer resident of Oyster Bay at Sagamore Hill House. A trendsetter, a Manhattonite and Washingtonian. The song "Alice Blue Gown" was written for for; the color Alice Blue was named after her--a light blue with a bit of grey, like her eyes, and her favorite color.
She had a clever tongue...probably inspired by some of her Southern relatives. Here's a popular quote: If you have nothing nice to say, then come sit by me."
