Avant-garde (French pronunciation: [avɑ̃ɡaʁd]) means "advance guard" or "vanguard".[1] The adjective form is used in English to refer to people or works that are experimental or innovative, particularly with respect to art, culture, and politics. AGCFTA evolved from the desire to take art "to the streets". Informal arts programs created themselves (after school, during school holidays, & even during expulsion from school) at commercial art gallery Bob Doster's Backstreet Studio as neighborhood youth gravitated there to hear the live performances, see exhibits, and interact with artists of all disciplines. Wonderful folks in the community stepped in with donated art supplies, mentoring opportunities, and a wealth of volunteer assistance.
AGCFTA, with the help of partnering agencies & volunteers successfully serves the region with summer camps, afterschool programs, exhibits, performances, workshops, and other cultural arts opportunities. We seek and welcome partnerships that will allow us to continue our "street reach" arts mission. Office is located in Lancaster, SC at Bob Doster's Backstreet Studio, with a second location in Chester County for purposes of receipt and distribution of supplies for arts and humanitarian programs.
