The preschool embraces inclusion, celebrating cutural and developmental diversity, while providing an ideal environment for all children to learn and grow.

The Bernice M. Wright (BMW) Child Development Laboratory School serves children of diverse backgrounds and abilities between the ages of two and five years old. Services to children with disabilities are provided through community collaboration with an early intervention provider. There are 80-100 children from the campus and local communities enrolled at the school. Approximately 20 to 25 undergraduate students serve as teachers, and 10 to 15 volunteers and student researchers participate in the school's activities.

Located in the David B. Falk College of Sport and Human Dynamics's Department of Child and Family Studies, the Bernice M. Wright Child Development Laboratory School was founded in 1970 through the joint efforts of Syracuse University students, who were parents of young children, and the College for Human Development. The Child Development Laboratory School serves Syracuse University as a laboratory school in early childhood education and research.

Parent involvement is a very valued and important part of the program. Parents are required to assist in their child’s classroom and may also volunteer to serve on one of the many committees, which greatly contribute, to the smooth running of the School. Upon enrolling a child in the Child Development Laboratory School, parents become members of the Parent-School Association (PSA).

The Child Development Laboratory School follows the Syracuse University calendar, opening somewhat later than the first day of classes, and closing on the last day of classes each semester. The School will not be in session when University classes are closed for holidays or hazardous weather. Public school closings usually do not affect the Child Development Laboratory School. A calendar of events will be distributed to all parents at the beginning of each semester.

Following the University's academic calendar, the school offers classes during two 14-week semesters (September to December and January to May). A summer session is also available for children already enrolled in the school. Applications for the fall semester are accepted beginning in February.
