A non-profit ministry in Lee County, Alabama dedicated to meeting the needs and improving the quality of life for children in foster care physically, emotionally and spiritually.

BigHouse has a number of programs to support families in Lee County, AL and statewide.
Our clothes closet is a place children can shop for free year round to pick out clothing that makes them feel confident and comfortable.

Our Birthday club is sends children in foster care a birthday card with a certificate to come and pick out a toy or gift card from our birthday closet.

Our Kids' Night Out program is a monthly respite event for kids to come and play with our BigHouse volunteers for 3 hours on a Friday night while giving our parents the chance to have some quiet, adult only time. These events are a great way for our volunteers to get to know our kids and for our kids to have a lot of fun with each other!

Our Mothers' Day Out program is a weekly morning out for preschool moms. We have Kindermusik, Art, Storytime, Snack and Free Play for our preschoolers at BigHouse one morning each week.

Our Summer Day Camp Program is two week long day camps for our kids to come and participate in fun summer activities for no cost to them.


We also have special events through-out the year, including:

Glitz, Glam and Gowns- an event for teen girls in foster care to come and pick out a prom dress as well as be pampered with hair, make-up and nail tutorials.

Statewide Swimsuit and Towel Drive- A drive from March 1st- April 30th to collect new towels and new swimsuits for children in foster care across the state of Alabama. We have each towel embroidered with the child's name to make it extra special. In 2011 we filled 3421 requests from children in 61 out of 67 counties.

Back to School Bash- At the end of the summer we try to help gear our kids up for school by hosting our back to school bash. Kids come to BigHouse to get school supplies, clothes, toiletries and even haircuts to start the new school year off right.

Family Beach Retreat- Over Labor Day we take a group of families to the beach to enjoy a relaxing, encouraging and affordable family vacation. This is a great time for our families to get to know each other and even take children to the beach who may have never seen the ocean!

Care Packages- In October we assembled over 400 care packages for kids entering foster care. These packages included socks, underwear, toiletries, a comfort item, and a bible.

Breakfast with Santa- Our Breakfast with Santa is a favorite event each Christmas. Each child gets a chance to talk to Santa, receives a present, and families get to fellowship with each other. We even have an angel come to share with us the TRUE meaning of Christmas.
