Boston Rock / Talk is Boston's first and only web, TV and radio show that highlights the biggest names in music as they come to play the city's venues.
Each Rock / Talk session is an hour of high-caliber content, featuring an interview with host Jim Sullivan (former Boston Globe and Phoenix rock music critic), and a stripped down, three-to-five song performance by the artist. Jim is known for his informed interviews and deep knowledge of the music scene, past and present, and Boston Rock / Talk captivates its audience with an intimate experience. Each show is broadcast live in partnership with Comcast to produce a video series for digital distribution via Xfinity On Demand including the interview, performance and behind-the-scenes footage.
Boston is historically recognized amongst America’s music towns. New York and Los Angeles hold a strong grip on the industry’s attention and cities like Austin and Nashville boast uniform and well-branded music scenes, but Boston has been the best-kept secret for those who delve into its intricate live music scene. Supported by small clubs, theaters and arenas, the city is cultivating bands that shape the musical landscape on a national level in genres from pop to folk to punk. Though the 10th largest metropolitan region and the 7th biggest radio market in the United States, there has been no show faithfully devoted to promoting a deep history of diversity in the artists playing the city’s venues. Boston Rock / Talk is essentially that: complementing smart talk and live music, humor if it fits, or more serious content, both insightful and musical.
Boston Rock / Talk began producing a pilot season in 2013, featuring Peter Hook (of Joy Division and New Order) at Redstar Union and UK pop star, Kate Nash, at Café 939. A complete pilot season is currently being finished in 2014, already having added new sessions with Dave Wakeling (of The English Beat), The Kooks, Ellis Paul and the Dum Dum Girls. The show is produced by Ralph Jaccodine, founding entrepreneur and artist manager at Ralph Jaccodine Management / Black Wolf Records, and hosted by Jim Sullivan, who has written over 10,000 stories for the Boston Globe and Boston Phoenix amongst other publications.
