Forest Hills Rego Park Community Emergency Response Team
FHRP CERT
The Forest Hills Rego Park Community Emergency Response Team is composed of your neighbors. A group of us started training in September 2004 and graduated in December 2004 completing an intensive training course provided by the NYC Office of Emergency Management. The course taught us how to: suppress small fires, how to assist in traffic and crowd control, how to help in light search and rescue, how to respond to medical emergencies and how to prepare for and assist in disaster situations. We also took a course on how to react to subway emergencies.
We have published a resource guide for our community.
We have continued our training. We had participated in numerous disaster drills with the NYPD, FDNY AND OEM. Should a man-made or natural disaster occur, we are prepared to assist First Responders and to become integrated into the existing emergency response capability. Our CERT includes members of the Forest Hills Volunteer Ambulance Corps and the 112th Precinct Auxiliaries. Many members have also been qualified to administer First Aid and CPR if necessary. The boundaries of our CERT team coincide with the boundaries of Community Board 6.
We have held an emergency preparedness Seminar, participated in our local hospitals seminars, and are planning additional seminars for our community. We have distributed thousands of READY NEW YORK GUIDES, helped in the New York Bikeathon, the Memorial Day Parade, and given seminars to senior groups. We have held and are holding blood drives with the Fire Dept and the New York Blood Center. We will be participating in other drills and events in our community. We will come and speak to your group and we invite and welcome new members. To learn how to become more involved please contact through community board 6 Queens
