White Oak remains a small town (the current population per the 2010 census is 6,469), but its advantageous location just west of Longview, White Oak residents are able to enjoy small town living and still conveniently take advantage of cultural and shopping opportunities in a large, metropolitan area.

This social media site is created to help convey information from the City to its citizens, to facilitate a sense of community, and for residents and businesses to communicate with and obtain information about the City of White Oak online. The City of White Oak web page www.cityofwhiteoak.com will remain the official source for conducting City business and when necessary, a link will be provided to guide the user to more in depth information, forms, etc.

In June 2011, the White Oak City Council adopted a Social Media Policy to provide helpful, practical advice to both the employee and City. It is also the intent of the policy to address the expected behavior on the site. Any behavior that does not follow the approved social media policy will be moved by an administrator. City Council meetings are the 2nd Tuesday of every month at 6:00 p.m. at City Hall. There is a Citizen Comment item on every regular meeting agenda. Citizens may fill out a form before the meeting and give to the Mayor. Citizens then have 3 minutes to present their comments to the Council. According to the Texas Open Meetings Act, Section 551.042, a council member may only give a statement of specific factual information given in response to the inquiry; or, a recitation of existing policy in response to the inquiry. Any deliberation of or decision about the subject of the inquiry shall be limited to a proposal to place the subject on the agenda for a subsequent meeting.
