Covenant Place is Sumter's Premier full-service Continuing Care Retirement Community. As a not for profit corporation, Covenant Place is truly a community of neighbors helping neighbors.

A group of caring people in Sumter, South Carolina, made a unique promise, a covenant, to their community to create a continuing care retirement community (CCRC) where the needs of mature adults and their loved ones could be met. The result of that promise is Covenant Place – a warm, inviting retirement community, tastefully designed to reflect southern charm and hospitality with a neighbor helping neighbor philosophy.
As a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) continuing care retirement community, Covenant Place offers the perfect lifestyle options for those who enjoy their independence with security for the future. Covenant Place provides a range of lifestyle options, including independent living, assisted living, skilled nursing care.

As the only Continuing Care Retirement Community in the area, Covenant Place is a rental community that does not have any buy-in, entry fees, or long-term contract. Covenant Place Board of Trustees, Life Care Services, and representatives from local sponsoring congregations work together to maintain this unique retirement community.

In the spring of 1994, Covenant Place opened its doors as the only continuing care retirement community (CCRC) in the area. Covenant Place is a result of the vision of local community leaders making a commitment to the people of Sumter and surrounding areas - A commitment to provide a lifestyle to seniors that wanted to forego the burdens of maintaining a house and live among others who share their zest for life.

These local leaders sought support from local area congregations – Congregation Sinai, First Baptist Church, First Presbyterian Church, Grace Baptist Church, Holy Comforter Episcopal Church, Saint Anne Catholic Church, Salem Black River Presbyterian Church, and Trinity United Methodist Church – to help a dream become reality.
Representatives from the local area congregations remain members of the Board of Trustees at Covenant Place. These dedicated members of the Sumter community recognize that aging is a normal process in which people experience in different ways. They ensure all of our programs, services, and amenities are designed with the needs of mature adults and their loves ones in mind.
