Welcome to the official CrossFit Grind Facebook page! CrossFit advocates a mix of aerobic exercises, gymnastics, and Olympic weight lifting!
CrossFit is a strength and conditioning brand. CrossFit advocates a mix of aerobic exercises, gymnastics (body weight exercises), and Olympic weight lifting. CrossFit's aim is to create core to extremity strength; in other words whole body strength to keep us moving efficiently as we age. By definition, CrossFit is "constantly varied, high intensity functional movements."
CONSTANTLY VARIED - This means always changing workouts, never letting your body adapt. This is why CrossFit is great for getting results. Your body never gets used to anything, so you never reach those plateaus.
HIGH INTENSITY - This is where many misconceptions about CrossFit come from. Many people think that high intensity means you have to look like you are going to burst a vein. This is NOT intensity, although it may sometimes be a result of it. Intensity is how much weight you can move over the longest distance in a short amount of time, while, of course, maintaining proper form and technique.
FUNCTIONAL MOVEMENTS - These are movements humans were born for; movements that are natural and safe; movements that are used in everyday life, such as squatting, dead lifting, and pull-ups. This is NOT sitting in a machine that holds you in place, while executing a movement that isolates one muscle, leaving your body unbalanced with useless strength. These are movements that promote neurological and hormonal responses, leading to better health, actual strength, core stability, agility, and flexibility.
CrossFit can be scaled to any body, any age, and any level of fitness. Therefore, you do not have to be an athlete or an extremely strong person to do CrossFit. Although, be prepared, that may be who you become.
