DAR Okeechobee Chapter

Okeechobee DAR Chapter meets at 10am on the second Saturday of the month Oct - April at the Okeechobee Library.

The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution was founded October 11, 1890, and incorporated in 1896, by an Act of Congress. The motto of “God, Home and Country” motivates the nearly 170,000 members around the world.

The Florida Society Daughters of the American Revolution was organized in 1895. Its more than 8,000 members comprise 107 chapters across the state. Members volunteer throughout the State of Florida supporting the over 200 committees which actively further the National Society’s goals of “God, Home and Country”.

Any woman 18 years or older, regardless of race, religion, or ethnic background, who can prove lineal descent from a patriot of the American Revolution is eligible for membership in the National Society. The National Society is comprised of state and local chapters.

Our chapter’s name was adopted from historic Lake Okeechobee, the second largest freshwater lake within the boundaries of the United States. The name was derived from the Native American word, “Oki” meaning water and “Chobee” meaning big.
