Unique Handmade Photo Jewelry
My work combines three of my favorite things: photography, nature, and jewelry. I have always loved bugs, flowers, birds, and just being outside. When I was little, one of my favorite things to do was to read field guides. My mom tells me that on car rides I would sit in the back seat with a book about bugs, mammals or birds and regale her with “insteresting facts” about whatever I was reading.
In my high school yearbook class, I learned the basics of photography, and I have loved taking pictures ever since. Naturally, most of my photographs are inspired by nature.
I was inspired to make some of my photos into jewelry while trying to come up with an idea of what to get my sister for her birthday. She and I often get each other jewelry as presents, and I was looking for a unique piece to give her. I decided to try making a necklace for her. She loved it, and I had so much fun making it that I just kept making more!
To make the jewelry, I crop and resize the photos to fit each piece. After sealing the photos to protect them and to preserve the colors, I cover them with a high quality resin which cures to a glass-like finish.
Just like glass, the resin might get smudges or finger prints on it over time. This is easily remedied by simply wiping clean with a lint-free cloth.
Each of my creations features one of my own photographs which has been sized down and cropped to fit the piece. Each photo is sealed and covered with a high quality resin which cures to a glass-like finish.
