Crafts, Crochet and Upcycling Vintage items
Specializing in Crochet and Upcycling household items! Waste not, want not! I try to reuse just about anything I can from Tic Tac Containers to Coffee Cans! I save every scrap of yarn to use for stuffing small projects. At this time I am not taking custom orders but hope to do so once I get in the groove of being a business! Please contact me at info@faerydustdesigns.com with any questions, ideas or suggestions!
I can't really say exactly when I started being crafty. I have always liked to draw (even though I am awful at it) and at one point in my youth I thought I was going to be a fashion designer when I had a Barbie Designer Plates set, those things you can switch around and put paper over and then rub with a crayon.
I started really getting serious about it a few years ago when I was clinically diagnosed with Seasonal Affective Depressive Disorder and it was suggested I pick up a hobby, especially during the winter months, to keep me occupied. I started with knitting. I made a few scarves and baby blankets but eventually became bored with it because it took so long!
On to jewelry making, a dangerously addictive and expensive hobby!! I actually made a few bucks and was complimented quite often on things I made. I can't leave everything out due to space limits so I don't make as much as I used to but I still make stuff here and there.
I started sewing. Pillows, purses, simple things... But I never really learned all the skills and kind of winged it. I still have my sewing machine, lots of fabric and supplies but I haven't gotten to sew in awhile.
So now, mostly I crochet. It is so much easier than knitting, and faster! I crochet away as my husband plays XBox, while we watch TV, at work, whenever!
I also love "Upcycling". I love looking around at yard sales and estate sales and finding broken jewelry or old game board pieces and turning them into art. Bottle caps and pop tabs from soda cans into jewelry. I try and reuse anything and everything I come across so I waste as little as possible. I save jar candles and candy tins to store things in. I save coffee cans and use them as side table garbage cans. I save every scrap of yarn to use as stuffing in crochet projects. I'm a bit of a packrat and it drives my boyfriend crazy but it is part of my creative process.
When you buy from a small home-based business or boutique, you are not helping a CEO buy a third vacation home. You are helping a Mom and Wife pay her mortgage, put diapers on her babies, put her kids through school & sports, and save for family trips. You are changing a family's life with your purchases. Our customers are our shareholders - and they are the ones we strive to make happy. Thank you for my business!
