Follow the THS Choirs as a member, parent, alum, friend, or fan!
There are five choral groups at Trumbull High School: Freshman Choir, Concert Choir, Chamber Singers, Women's Ensemble and Men's Ensemble. Each of these groups performs regularly throughout the year and has consistently recieved high praise from experts in the field.
The Concert Choir, Chamber Singers, and Women's and Men's Ensembles have also done extensive touring. They have performed through Austria, Germany, Italy, France, and the Czech Republic, giving concerts at such notable places as Notre Dame, Salzburg Cathedral, St. Peter's Basilica, Basilica De San Francesco, Santo Maria de Duomo and Santa Maria Maggiore. The choirs have also performed throughout the United States and Canada at invitational music festivals and on tour.
In addition, the Chamber Singers and the Concert Choir have had the honor of performing at Carnegie Hall on nine seperate occasions. They have sung such major works such as Choral Fantasy of Beethoven, the Durufle Requiem, Vesperae De Dominica and Vesperae De Confessore of Mozart, Te Deum of Haydn, Handel's Zadok the Priest, and the Nikolaimesse of Haydn, as well as three world premieres. In 2011, the choirs performed several works by composer and conductor, John Leavitt.
Additionally, the Trumbull High School Chamber Singers are very pleased to have the oppurtunity to share the gift of music with several community and charitable organizations in the area, as well as honors performances for the New Haven Symphony Orchestra, the Greater Bridgeport Symphony, and the American Choral Directors Association.
FRESHMAN CHORUS (Grade 9)
This course is designed for a mixed group of ninth grade students interesting in singing in a choral group. There should be a desire to learn basic music reading and vocal technique skills. Through participation in this group, students can attain the necessary experience for singing in the Concert Choir. Areas of study are: basic music reading, voice production, and musical interpretation. A variety of music literature is studied and performed. The Freshman Chorus performs at all school concerts. No audition is required.
CONCERT CHOIR (Grades 10-12)
This course involves the application of good vocal training through the study and performance of choral literature selected from all periods of music history. Both accompanied and unaccompanied music will be performed and some of the repertoire is in a foreign language. The Concert Choir will perform at all school concerts and at other selected events. This choir is open to all students, grades 10-12 without an audition.
HONORS CHAMBER SINGERS (Grades 10-12)
This course is designed for the advanced choral singer and specializes in music composed for the small but more skilled vocal ensemble. Repertoire is chosen from all musical periods from the sixteenth century to the present and many different styles and languages are represented. The group carries a very active schedule of performances within the school and community. Membership in this group is by audition only.
VOCAL MUSIC ENSEMBLES (Grades 9-12)
This course involves the application of specific vocal techniques through the study and performance of choral literature selected from all periods of music history. This course is comprised of both Women’s and Men’s Ensembles, both of which meet on Monday evenings. The prerequisite for this course is participation in at least one of the other choral groups or by permission of the instructor.
