The Friends of West Salem Baseball organization was founded in 2004 with the express interest of improving the state of baseball within the community.
The Friends of West Salem Baseball organization was founded in 2004. A group of concerned parents identified that the West Salem baseball facilities did not meet the high standard expected from our community. At that time a three phase plan was established to making improvements, targeting the high school field. The first two phases have been completed.
Phase One included the following changes to the high school field:
New Field Layout
Field Grading
Infield Work (raise infield, replace topsoil and new athletic turf)
Baseline Work
Outfield (grade to 1.5% slope, replace topsoil, new athletic turf, new warning track)
Install Drain Tile System
Irrigation System
Permanent Fencing
Phase Two included the following changes to the high school field:
Update Lighting
New Scoreboard
Phase Three includes the following changes:
Restrooms/Concessions - completed
Dugouts - completed
Grandstands (permanent box-type, seating 200-400, with roof)
Press Box
The organization has also contributed to the following changes:
Improved batting cages at Riverview, Village Park, and varsity softball field
Conducted annual clinics and tunnel leagues
Started the West Salem Legion Baseball program
Financially supported the high school teams at tournaments
Sponsored numerous SEP projects
Supported the annual alumni game with food and drinks for all players
Assisted Park and Recreation Department with the little league review process
Maintained the high school field
The Friends of West Salem Baseball has several fund raising events. Some of the events include a youth baseball clinic, golf outing, Chicken Q, La Crosse Fair Dairy Bar, concession stand and selling advertisements for the players' program.
