DR. GARY R. GECELTER AND DR. EUGENE RUBACH HAVE BEEN IN PRACTICE TOGETHER SINCE 2005. THEY SPECIALIZE IN GENERAL SURGICAL PROCEDURES WITH AN EMPHASIS ON MINIMALLY INVASIVE (LAPAROSCOPIC) ONCOLOGIC SURGERIES, ROBOTIC SURGERIES, GASTROINTESTINAL TRACT PROCEDURES AND HERNIA OPERATIONS.

Gary R. Gecelter, MD- Chairman of Surgery, St, Francis Hospital

Since August 2008, Dr. Gary Gecelter has been the Chairman of Surgery at St Francis Hospital, where he specializes in laparoscopic surgery, minimally invasive surgery and surgical oncology. He is an internationally recognized surgeon in hepatobilliary and pancreatic diseases. In addition to holding that position, Dr. Gecelter is an Associate Professor of Surgery at Albert Einstein School of Medicine, sits on the board of various committees and advisory boards, and has been invited to lecture all around the world.

Dr. Gecelter attended medical school at the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg, South Africa. He completed Fellowships at Royal College of Surgeons, London and University of Witwatersrand. He was recruited by Stony Brook University Hospital where he served as Director of the Operating Room from 1994-1998 at which time he joined the NS-LIJ Health System. He served as Vice Chairman of Department of Surgery at Long Island Jewish Medical Center until joining St. Francis Hospital.

Dr. Gecelter maintains a busy private practice, performing approximately 300 cases per year. The main focus of his practice is hepatobilliary, pancreatic and esophageal cancers and benign esophageal diseases. In addition, he performs outpatient laparoscopic hernia surgery and laparoscopic staging of gastrointestinal malignancies.

Eugene Rubach, MD- Attending Surgeon, St. Francis Hospital

Dr. Eugene Rubach, a Board Certified surgeon, joined St. Francis Hospital in November 2008. He specializes in laparoscopic surgery, robotic surgery, and surgical oncology procedures.

Dr. Rubach, a native of Kiev, Ukraine, attended Medical School at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey. After graduating from residency at the Albany Medical Center in Albany, NY, he went on to complete a Fellowship in Minimally Invasive Surgery at the North Shore/Long Island Jewish Health System.

Currently, Dr. Rubach maintains his busy practice of approximately 500 cases per year at St. Francis Hospital, North Shore University Hospital at Manhasset, and Long Island Jewish Medical Center. Dr. Rubach is fluent in Ukrainian and Russian languages.
