The Highland Street Cafe has been under its current name and ownership for over 12 years. What most people don't know is that it is Mount Dora's oldest restaurant, heralding back to the 1950's. It started as a small barbeque place called "Shiver's". The restaurant later became "Bud's Gizmo" serving various American fares such as the "Gizmo"; a triple bun burger with two hamburger patties and their own special sauce. For a short time it was a broasted chicken place and later became "Elsie's" before becoming known as The Highland Street Cafe 2001.
