For all those who are NOT aware of the "Lucky button" story here ya go. for those who do and you have your own story PLEASE share! Lil' Annie (my sweet visitor) loves hearing the beauty of them!! Here it goes...
A young girl named Annie came to take a tour of the Magnolia. She fell in love with it instantly just as we did. As she was leaving she looked down and found a button. She looked at me and said "May i have this button?" Of course we agreed! Then she sweetly went on to say "I bet this button is lucky because it belongs to the Magnolia!" Then she waved goodbye with her precious belonging tightly gripped in her hand. A few weeks later she returned with the biggest smile!! She said "Miss Erin, remember the button I found and you let me have? Well, it WORKED! I had a test the next day at school that I just knew I was going to fail even though I studied very hard for because it was math. I'm bad at math. But guess what??? I PASSED! It was your button that helped!! It's the magic of your love for the Magnolia and the Magnolia's happiness of being loved." YEP, the water works came running down my cheeks. All I could do was hug her. She told me she made the button into a necklace that she wears around her neck all the time now. Before she left she gave me one more message. "Miss Erin, I bet all of the buttons from the Magnolia are lucky! Can you give away some to those who love the building as much as you and I do so they can be lucky too?" Being that I'm VERY possessive of everything I find at the Magnolia I told her I would ONLY give them to those who truly support and love the Magnolia plus believe that her lucky buttons will work! She agreed! Since then I have been handing out buttons to those who BELIEVE they will work and support the building's future. The most stunning thing is happening....the buttons are WORKING! I get at least one story a week on how the button they received from the Magnolia has worked in some way or another. We get self addressed stamped envelopes from Facebook fans all over the United States requesting a button from the hotel. God works in mysterious ways and he sent a little girl who enriched our lives and enlightened us of the continued beauty and happiness this hotel brings to those who love and believe in her!! Thank you Annie!!! Keep Smiling with those pretty green eyes and come see me anytime you like!! ~ Miss Erin
Owned by author, Erin O Wallace and Jim Ghedi, the Magnolia Hotel (203 S Crockett St, Seguin, TX 78155) was established in 1838 and considered one of Texas’ oldest cities, Seguin was once home to as many as 90 limecrete buildings, an innovated construction method that used local gravel. The Magnolia Hotel is one of about 20 of these early concrete buildings to survive. The Magnolia Hotel opened in Seguin as early as 1847, serving stagecoach travelers passing through the town conveniently located between Gonzales and San Antonio.
The 20th century was not kind to the Magnolia Hotel. The construction of fire-proof brick hotels lead to its decline and during the 1930s, the Magnolia was converted to small apartments to accommodate the oil field workers during the oil boom. The last residents moved out of the building around 2000.
