Creating pathways to success through mentorship
The genesis of the Helping Our Pupils Excel NH Inc. (HOPE NH Inc) program began in 2007 when working with middle school students. It became increasingly evident that there was a growing disconnect for students transitioning from middle school to high school, becoming a precursor for a foundational breakdown. When academic confidence failed there was an increase in deviant behavior and school faculty forced to apportion their efforts between teaching and addressing social symptoms as they affect educational outcomes.
HOPE NH Inc.’s objective is to identify at risk students in danger of not meeting their full potential, as early as 6th grade. The focus is to hone and enhance a mentee's strengths and capacities to be a productive member of the community. We want to decrease their sense of academic helplessness, increase their confidence through multi faceted communication and connection with their peer groups and community.
Our program is unique in that we approach the student population as early as the 3rd grade by delivering class presentations geared towards the importance of academic studies, school attendance, involvement in school activities, positive relationships, anti bullying behavior, and respect of others. Our goal is to get students thinking about their futures and their choices in a positive way throughout their elementary school years. Our philosophy is that early intervention is a crucial preventative measure in the development and deterrence of juvenile delinquency.
The HOPE NH Inc. program incorporates several policies and procedures that enhance delinquency prevention and intervention .
