Jack Monreal - Coyne Funeral Home - (440) 585-4555

Proudly selling only American made caskets and merchandise.

In the mid 1800's Joseph Monreal, Jack's grandfather, came to America as a woodworker. He opened a funrniture store under the name J. Monreal Co. in Cleveland. It was requested that Joseph start to make wooden caskets in order for people to bury their loved ones. He agreed and in 1892 the J. Monreal Co. expanded so one side of the building was his furniture store, and the other for undertaking.

Joseph and his sons opened a funeral home on St. Clair Ave., 25 years after the J. Monreal Co. store, under the name The Monreal Co. Funeral Home. In 1921 Joseph passed away leaving the business to his sons. A second funeral home was opened on Euclid Ave. in 1936. Jack started learning the funeral business from his father and after returning from W.W.II became a licensed funeral director in 1946. His wife Marilyn was licensed 2 years later. After the passing of Jack's father in 1953, he became co-owner of The Monreal Co. along with his brother and uncle. In the mid 1950's Jack and Marilyn set out looking for property to bring the family business to the east side. They found the location they were looking for in Willowick on Vine Street. They had to utilize their own personal funds to buy the land and construct the building, often doing as much of the work they could themselves, and in 1957 the Willowick location was opened. During this time Jack and Marilyn rented their facilities to The Monreal Co. for funerals. After 15 years and circumstances beyond control, the rent was not covering expenses so Jack had given up his shares in The Monreal Co. and parted ways.

In 1972 Jack and Marilyn kept the business going under the name Jack Monreal Funeral Home. The Monreal Co., who eventually moved to Eastlake, and Jack Monreal Funeral Home have not been associated or affiliated since 1972.

Since 1972 Jack has taught his family the business, but more importantly he's taught his unique compassion for helping those during a painful time in their lives. When Jack passed away in 2001, and Marilyn being semi-retired, their children Jack Jr. and his sister Mardell continued serving families in need. With the untimely passing of Jack Jr. in 2003, Mardell had taken over with Marilyn's guidence. Mardell's son Timothy also came into the family business. In 2008 Marilyn passed away after 60 years of being a licensed funeral director. As of August 1, 2013 we are happy to be working with Mike Coyne as our Funeral Director / Manager. Mardell and Timothy are proudly keeping Jack's memory alive by continuing his loyalty to you, our families, as he did for so many years.
