Jesse Walters, Councilman, Miami Shores Village Council

I love helping people & effecting change. Whether it is helping someone with a code issue, to improving our downtown, or battling for marriage equality!

I am nearing the conclusion of my fourth year on our Village Council. This is my second term and I will continue to serve until April 2017.

• I introduced legislation to approve the return of movies in our downtown!
• Moved to provide health and other benefits for the domestic partners of village employees.
• Sole “no” vote against increasing Local Business Tax Fee.
• Proposed action to post all board and commission Minutes on our new Web site.
• Led the effort to re-paint NE 2nd. Avenue to return it to one lane in each direction with curbside parking.
• Have voted to approve over 50 women, G/L/B/T residents, and people of color to our boards and commissions.
*Championed the effort to install sewers in our downtown, paving the way for restaurants, pubs, and retail stores.

Professionally, as Executive Director of the Greater Miami Shores Chamber of Commerce, I have re-invented the Chamber with creation of the monthly Egret magazine, a new Web site, increased programming, and organized the annual downtown street fair called "Green Day", voted the community's "best annual event".

I strive to be fiscally conservative, business friendly, and a strong advocate for progressive issues. I believe in government transparency and being accessible for constituent issues. Call, write or e-mail anytime!
