Lash extensions are the new hot trend in the beauty industry. Eyelash extensions extend the length of your lashes to make them look longer, thicker and fuller. There are many different shapes, lengths, and sizes to choose from to create a look just for you. Each individual lash is carefully glued to your own natural eyelash using a special lash bonding adhesive. Your new lashes will last up to 2-4 weeks depending on your lash cycle they grow and fall out with your natural lashes.
Common Questions:
What are eyelash extensions and how are they applied?
-Eyelash extensions are synthetic lashes made of a lightweight polyester type material. These"lashes"are made to look like your own natural lashes. They create increased length and fullness. Extensions are available in many different lengths and diameters. The proper length and size is determined for each client by their lash stylist and multiple sizes are used for each client and are applied to your natural lashes one by one
Who is authorized to apply Eyelash Extensions in Colorado?
-In Colorado you must be a licensed Cosmetologist or a licensed Esthetician to apply eyelash products of any kind. Nail Technicians are not authorized in Colorado to apply extensions unless they have a separate license as a Cosmetologist or Esthetician. Please note that while a Cosmetology or Esthetic license is required to apply lash extensions there is no regulation requiring specific training in eyelash extension application. We have known several "licensed " individuals who have learned on their own or from a video and are actively applying lash extensions. Please look for individuals who have taken a hands on course specifically for eyelash extension application when choosing a lash stylist. Hands on courses teach proper safety, sanitation and application for working around the eye area. Lacy MacLean is licensed by the State of Colorado and has had 6 weeks of training and practice before seeing clients and a minimum of 3 months training and experience before seeing clients for full price fees.
Are lashes attached to the skin?
-No, lash extensions are individually attached to your own natural lashes. One by one. Our goal is to attach as many eyelashes as possible during your appointment time. The number of lashes attached depends on the number of natural lashes the client has as well as the texture and quality of the clients natural lash. They are attached approximately 1/2-1 mm away from the eyelid.
Why do lash extensions cost so much?
-Eyelash Extensions when applied properly is a very intricate time consuming practice that requires a high level of skill and attention to detail. The products that we use are only of the highest quality and are very costly. It takes a lot of practice and time to master the art of eyelash extension application. Lacy MacLean has priced herself as competitively as possible for the amount of training and experience, quality of application and quality of products used. She charges approximately half of similar lash only studios in Denver.
Do you use a "medical" adhesive?
-Yes, generally we do. That being said you have to ask why this is important. Medical grade refers to the purity of the ingredients used in the adhesive. Not the safety. Eyelash extension adhesive is not going on or into the body therefore the importance of purity is definitely over rated and mostly used as a marketing ploy. Consumers often confuse purity with safety. In the case of eyelash extensions, the ingredients in eyelash extension adhesives are all considered irritants.
This is why it is important to have lashes applied 1/2-1 mm away from the base of the lashes and allow for proper drying along with balancing the correct amount of adhesive for maximum bonding but minimum irritation.
Again this is where proper application training is important. Also following all aftercare instructions. We strive to use the longest lasting, most natural feeling and flexible adhesives available even if this means they are not medical grade.
Can everyone wear lash extensions?
-No unfortunately not. If you are very sensitive to adhesives such as medical tape, or glue for acrylic nails or hair dye you are most likely not a good candidate for lash extensions.
Also, if you have difficulty with your thyroid and have thin, brittle hair and nails due to thyroid problems then lashes are most likely not a good choice for you.
Just a note here, we can only apply lash extensions to the lashes you already have and make them thicker and longer. We cannot create new lashes or fill in large holes or gaps.
How long do lash extensions last?
-Usually 2-5 weeks. So much depends on the client care routine. We can apply extensions and create a beautiful appearance but if your do not do your part in protecting our work they will cost more and look less beautiful than they should. The better your home care the longer the lash extensions will last and the better they will look in between re-lash appointments.
Lashes grow from the follicle and mature and then fall out. Most people do not realize that the their natural lashes fall out continuously. They constantly shed and replace themselves that is why with proper applications you can wear lash extensions for years and not need a break. We recommend 2-4 week re-lash appointments to keep lashes looking good all the time. Most of our clients return at the 3 week time for their re-lash appointments. This is a 60 min. appointment. Again, this varies depending on number of lashes you have, life style, your lash growth pattern and most importantly home care.
How do I care for lash extensions?
-First follow all your home care instructions given at your initial lash application appointment.
This includes keeping them dry for 24 hours after your initial appointment as well as your re-lash appointments. Keep out of hot tubs and saunas for 48 hours after all application appointments.
Do use the baby shampoo or baby wash for keeping your lashes clean. Remove all eye makeup with Lashcare eyelash cleansing pads available in our studio. Do not use any oil or petroleum based products as this will loosen the adhesive bond. If you use eye creams make sure not to use them on your lid. Do not sleep on your stomach with your face in your pillow. Do not rub, pick or pull. Really treat them delicately. The less you do to them the longer they will retain their beautiful appearance and the less they will cost in upkeep. We have found that the clients who wear the most eye makeup(heavy eyeliner, shadow and mascara) need re-lash appointments more often or longer appointment times if they choose to go long between re-lashes.
You can wear mascara but you will need to return every 2 weeks for re-lash appointments as the pulling action from applying mascara damages the bond quickly. If you feel you need to wear mascara often please consult with your lash stylist to see if you are able to wear a thicker lash extension or if a more dramatic look can be created.
