Lil Oscars Wagon

Lil Oscar is our Specially-Abled dog. We built him a covered wagon to fit on his wheelchair and he now appears in many local pet parades and walks.

Lil Oscar is our 14 year old, Specially-Abled Shih Tzu. We got him in 1998 and for 2 years he was happy, energetic, and loved to play with our elder Shih Tzu, Trevor. Then on Halloween in 2000 he came back in from being in our back yard and had a unusual smile on him. We soon discovered that he was in pain and needed help. We took him immediately to the Pet Hospital and they said he needed surgery to fuse his discs back into place. This was on Friday evening. They waited until Monday to do the surgery and it was semi-successful. He was alive but would be permanently disabled and would need daily care to help him relive himself. I have to squeeze out his urine several times everyday.
Three years ago I decided to build a Covered Wagon to fit over his wheelchair. We had him in our Peninsula Humane Societies Mutt Strutt and was an instant hit with everyone! Next he was in the 2010 Burlingame Pet Parade, as spectators encouraged him along the parade route. Well he’s been in many parades and events around the San Francisco Bay Area. For each event we decorate his wagon to fit the occasion. He’s even been at the San Francisco Giants “Dog Days of Summer” and as a finalists was featured on the Giant TV at AT&T park before the Giants game! This years been difficult because of the many parades canceled because of Cities budget cuts. His last event, his 6th appearance in the “Burlingame Pet Parade” he had Woody of Toy Story fame drive his new, Yellow colored Covered Wagon. He loves to strutt down the parade routes and especially all the attention he gets from the children viewing. This is what inspires him on. Lil Oscar’s mission is to show everyone that a 16 year old, 14 years disabled, can live a long and inspirational life. He’s never happier then when he’s cheered on in a parade.
