Lisa Wiggins, Postpartum Doula - (336) 880-3012

Professional postpartum care for mothers, babies, and their families providing compassionate, nurturing assistance in the comfort of your own home.

WHAT I DO:

My aim is to provide the thoughtful, individualized care your family needs to make a smooth transition into parenthood as you role out the welcome mat for your little one. Whether you're a first time parent or gained the title Mother/Father years ago, my expertise will allow you to breath a little easier while settling in with the newest addition to the family. As a postpartum doula, you can lean on me for gentle and objective support with questions such as:

How do I know when baby is hungry?
How often should I feed him/her?
Should I nurse or bottle feed?
How do I use this breast pump?
How do I bathe my baby?
When should I call the doctor?
How do I get baby to sleep?
What's a swaddle?
How do I wake baby up?
What should I be doing right now?
How do I get the help I need when you're not here?
How do I get all of my visitors to give me some space and time with my newborn?

All of these questions are common and completely normal. If you're still waiting on that due date to role around, you may even be wondering some of these things now. Plan ahead and give me a call or send a message! I would love to speak with you about your postpartum wishes. What is your ideal vision for how things should be when you bring baby home? The sooner I learn this information, the better I can tailor my services to fit your family's particular needs.

If baby is already here and you've ended up on my site browsing for options because you're just not sure what else to do, you're in the right place! Call or message now and fill me in. My promise to you is to listen with an open heart and mind and give advice as though you were my own family. I do not charge a fee for the first 2 communications, so there's no excuse!

A LITTLE ABOUT ME:

I hold a Bachelor of Science in Psychology with a background in Human and Childhood Development. One of my first jobs out of college was working as a daycare teacher and later as the Assistant Director for the same facility. Afterwards, I worked with a wonderful family and their 2 boys as a nanny for approximately 2 years. References for all of the above can be provided upon request.

I have a 3-year-old girl and 1-year-old boy (both of which I breastfed for almost a year) with my husband of nearly 5 years. I also have experience caring for my sister's 2 children and actually attended the birth of her first! My current place of employment is at Merck in Durham, NC where the vaccine for chicken pox (Varivax) is manufactured. I am happy to provide evidence-based information for you on this subject as well if interested. I look forward to hearing from you!

PLEASE NOTE:

The state of North Carolina does not have any laws or requirements governing the practice of doula care. Unfortunately, our society has been very slow to acknowledge the profoundly beneficial services this profession provides. In short - basically anyone can claim the title of "Doula." One way to ensure you enlist the expertise of a truly qualified caregiver is to ask about specialized training and with what organization. To answer this question in my case, I am DONA trained and going through the certification process right now. DONA is the most esteemed organization in the doula field as it receives national recognition for its comprehensive training requirements and high ethical and professional standards. Please follow the link for the DONA website below for more information.

Since I am not yet "official," I'm temporarily offering lower prices than my certified counterparts. Please know that through 2 childbirths of my own (a Cesarean section, then a non-medicated VBAC), and experience working in a daycare infant room and as a nanny for years, I can provide the loving, emotional support you, your baby and family will require in those first few delicate weeks. Even before having children of my own, I have had a passion for babies and helping the mothers and other individuals who play such important roles in their lives. I know that with each person I touch I am able to take what I learned from my last experience to the next and provide better care every single time, making lives easier along the way! What a wonderful thing!
