Ohio River Bridges Project - Downtown Crossing
When completed, there will be six northbound lanes on the new bridge and six southbound lanes on the existing John F. Kennedy bridge.
The new cable stay bridge will run alongside and east of the current John F. Kennedy Bridge connecting Louisville, KY, and Jeffersonville, IN. The project includes work on the Kentucky side on I-65 from Walnut to the Kennedy bridge, on I-64 from River Road to Mellwood, and the I-71 interchange to Frankfort Avenue. On the Indiana side, work will occur between W. Market Street north to Stansifer Avenue. Overall, the project includes 60 bridges, 21 walls, 2.3 million pounds of structural steel, 50,000 cubic yards of concrete, 1.3 million cubic yards of earth work, 538,000 linear feet of piling and 442,000 tons of asphalt.
