The Merrimack Valley Lead Poisoning Prevention Program at GLCAC was established in 1976.
Lead Screening
Lead Screening is provided for children under the age of six, A small amount of blood is taken from your child’s finger and tested for lead.
Case Management
Case Management allows us to counsel parents with children under the age of six on how to reduce the risk of lead hazards.
Community Health Educators assess factors that may impact the child’s blood lead level (including sources of lead, nutrition, access to services at GLCAC (i.e. Early Intervention, WIC, and Head Start) family interaction and caregiver understanding. Health Educators ensure coordination of long-term services and retesting.
Information & Education
The purpose of the Lead information and Education Component is to increase public awareness on the dangers of lead poisoning.
Environmental
The Greater Lawrence Community Action Council, Inc., Merrimack Valley Lead Poisoning Prevention Program (GLCAC Inc. MVLPPP) conducts lead inspections each year due to lead poisoning children referrals, board of health referrals and parental request.

Children up to the age of six (6), service area: Haverhill, Lawrence, Methuen, North Andover, Andover, Lowell, Billerica, Merrimac, Salisbury, Amesbury, Newburyport, Groveland, Rowley, Chelmsford, Boxford, Georgetown, Tewksbury, Dracut, Westford, Tyngsborough, Dunstable, Newbury, West Newbury.
