The Monroe County Michigan Animal Shelter , is a division of The Monroe County Sheriff's Office. Our community commitment and goals are to provide an avenue for rescue, adoption, fostering and animal welfare.
Our Adoption Process...
Adopting a dog or cat from the shelter: We adopt on a first come, first serve basis. You must come into the shelter and fill out an adoption application and put down a $10 non-refundable application fee to secure your spot for adoption. Currently the cost for adopting a shelter animal is $35. $10 is a non-refundable application fee, $25 is a deposit for the spay/neuter portion of the contract. Adopters sign a contract agreeing to have the dog/cat spayed or neutered within 30 days. We are currently offering a Voucher at the time of adoption, through a grant from the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. The voucher covers the cost of the spay/neuter surgery. There are 9 area Veterinarians that are participating in this program and the surgery must be done at one of these vets. When the spay/neuter procedure is done, a refund of the $25.00 will be issued by the county.
If you rent and want to adopt, before we start the adoption process, you must come in with a letter from your Landlord, with a copy of their picture ID, stating you may have an animal in your house. If you own or rent a mobile home or live in an Apartment complex, we must have a letter on the parks letterhead from the manager stating you can have an animal in your home.
