Morgantown Whitewater Park is about reclaiming the Monongy Rapids @ the Morgantown Lock and Dam as a world class 'Bigwater Play Park".

With the growth of whitewater sports and economic success of whitewater parks, Many have been constructed and others are planned. The Morgantown Lock and Dam has been targeted as an ideal location based upon river characteristics of gradient and volume combined with great population demographics with the University, and a concentration of whitewater enthusiasts driven by the whitewater rafting industry in WV, PA, and MD.

Whitewater Parks have proven to provide significant economic impact to areas in which they are located. They attract tourism, add to the quality of life, provide employment, as well as providing recreational activities for all ages. There have been many studies involving the economic impact of whitewater parks.. in stream parks have proven to be much more cost effective than parks that require pumps.

The simple goal is to restore the Monongy Rapid ("Monongy: an urban legend of a monster man-fish) to the Monongahela River.

The bigger goal is to establish Morgantown in the Wild and Wonderful State of WV, as the Whitewater Capital of the World! The presence of a Bigwater Park in Morgantown will pay great dividends toward the goal of re-branding, Morgantown, WVU and The State of West Virginia. It will project an image of a State with great natural beauty and resources that attracts and supports healthy.active outdoor lifestyles.
