Since 1985, Mount Carmel Hospice and Palliative Care has provided help and support to people and their families who are facing a life-limiting and chronic illness. Patients receive relief from pain and discomfort, as well as the emotional and spiritual support of experienced, empathetic professionals.


Our services are provided by a diverse team that includes physicians, nurses, social workers, aides, counselors, trained volunteers and chaplains. Each lends their expertise in implementing a personal and comprehensive care plan that's developed in cooperation with attending physicians and mindful of each patient's wishes.


Loss and Grief Support
The life-limiting illness of a loved one, no matter how short or long-lasting, is a major struggle for everyone involved. After, when the patient is finally at peace, the family and friends are still left with a great deal of healing to be done.

The Mount Carmel Hospice Evergreen Center provide bereavement programs to help normalize the grieving process and help families to heal after their loss.
These include:
• Group support
• Individual counseling
• Educational seminars
• Current literature

The Evergreen Program, which provides children and their families the chance to work through their loss in a safe, supportive setting.

All Evergreen Programs are provided by the Mount Carmel Foundation and are available to all families in Central Ohio.


Mount Carmel Palliative Care:

Mount Carmel Palliative Care provides pain and symptom management for patients with advanced illness. Using an expert, interdisciplinary team of physicians, nurses, social workers, pharmacists, dietitians, chaplains and other specially trained staff, we work with patients and their families to provide assistance and counsel on the physical, emotional, spiritual and social aspects of serious illness.
The program includes a Palliative Medicine Consultation Service and Acute Palliative Care Units at Mount Carmel East, West and St. Ann's. The Acute Palliative Care Units provide daily palliative care and a forum for treating symptoms, assessing needs and making personal decisions about treatment choices. The Palliative Medicine Consultation Service assesses and treats pain and other symptoms, helps patients and their families determine treatment options, anticipate future healthcare needs and consider the possible course an illness may take.

One of the first in the United States to offer hospital-based palliative care (Mount Carmel began providing palliative care in 1997) and one of the most comprehensive, Mount Carmel is one of six exemplary palliative care programs in the U.S. designated as Palliative Care Leadership Centers and is actively involved in teaching other hospitals how to develop their own palliative care programs.
