Learn to race at one of the finest grass-roots club programs in the East. MTSO Race Team is USSA sanctioned, and a CT Youth Ski League member club.
Prepare for racing in one of the finest racing programs in the East. The Mount Southington Race Team, a youth racing academy, gives the young skier the opportunity to enter the world of competitive alpine skiing. This Program is designed to be fun while helping young people develop physically, psychologically and socially. Staffed by our finest instructors, this Program is held at our Jerry Donovan Alpine Training Center.
The goal of our Race Team Program is to prepare the young skier for future racing competition. Each skier is placed in a class based upon age where the emphasis is not race results but achieving performance skills. These skills are achieved by the skiers and coaches working closely together throughout the season.
The Mount Southington Race Team Program is open to skiers 8 to 20 years old who are serious about developing their skills and are able to ride a chairlift independently. Training begins the third Saturday in November regardless of whether Mount Southington ski area is open. Once the area opens, the race team hits the slopes every Thursday from 6:30-9:00pm, Saturday and Sunday (excluding holidays) from 8:30am-1:30pm when skiers are not racing. Special training hours are provided during school breaks, and though training ends the last weekend in February, training will be provided for any skier who qualifies for a championship series. Membership on the Race Team includes an unrestricted season pass, training by our highly qualified coaches, the Parents’ Association Fee and access to the terrain parks
