New Westchester Symphony Orchestra - (914) 260-1811

The New Westchester Symphony Orchestra is an audition-free ensemble of people who love to play music together.

The New Westchester Symphony Orchestra (NewWSO) was founded in November 2011 when conductor Benjamin Niemczyk and adult-beginner bassist Belinda Kan decided to create new and exciting opportunity for musicians in Westchester County and beyond. Their vision was to create an ensemble where instrumentalists of any age and ability could play the greatest works of music history in a supportive, non-competitive setting, free of the auditions and scrutiny of traditional orchestras.

NewWSO's repertoire is drawn from original orchestrations of the greatest works in music history. Symphonies by Mozart, Beethoven, Schubert, Mendelssohn; works such Handel’s Messiah and Ravel Mother Goose Suite; and popular favorites by Williams, Copland and Berlin are no longer out of reach for the amateur musician. Whether a a member has been playing music their whole lives or has just come back to their instrument after 50 years, the music is ultimately what brings NewWSO musicians together every week in the spirit of hard work, cooperation, and adventure.

In its short history, NewWSO has made numerous community appearances in Westchester County, including venues such as retirement communities, public libraries and ArtsWestchester. In 2014, NewWSO will play its first full symphony, Beethoven Symphony No. 5.

At almost three years old, NewWSO has over 70 members on its roster. As more people discover this unique opportunity in Westchester, the more NewWSO believes there is nothing greater than giving people the opportunity to make music with and for one another.
