Good Food. Good Friends. Good Times.
O’Callahan's was founded with the values of our forefathers and the rich traditions of great Irish pubs, by local Mocksville resident Dan Reynolds.
The name O’Callahan's comes from Dan’s mother’s side of the family. Darby Callahan, who was Dan’s great, great, great, great grandfather was born in Cork, Ireland in 1717. He came to America as a young boy and settled with relatives in Halifax, VA. He had left Ireland due to the starvation conditions during the great potato famine to find a better life. Most of the Callahans reside in Maryland today.
Dan comes from a large family of nine brothers and sisters. Two of Dan’s sisters, Piper and Elizabeth reside in Mocksville as well. They were all brought up with the same values as Darby, maintaining close relationships and valuing time with family and friends. Dan also has a large family and is the proud husband and father of five children, several of whom are very active in local sports. You can usually catch Dan and his wife Beth cheering on the teams at the games. Today Dan loves welcoming as his guests both familiar faces and newcomers to O’Callahan's. Everyone is made to feel as welcome as family.
O’Callahan's Publick House is dedicated to great people like Darby, who worked hard to have a better life and who knew the true value of family and friends. Also, we honor the rich Irish traditions of daily life built around the local pub.
In Ireland, traditionally, the church, pub and football club were the primary social outlets. People would typically converge at the local pub after Mass or a football match, where they exchanged stories and had fun (or ‘craic’ as they would say)! Today the pub is often busy with families after the local sports games. They enjoy great stories and the same family atmosphere that Darby must have enjoyed in his youth.
In order to capture that warmth here at O’Callahan's, we offer a stunning interior with exposed brick walls, pressed copper like ceilings and rich woodwork at the bar and front exterior. Rich, white quartz covers the bar top and the wood and leather seating and booths complement the beautiful wood floor. Our exterior patio is crafted of beautiful wood planking as well, and features an outdoor bar and two television screens to watch all of the games. Inside the pub, we have four large screens for catching the games and just enjoying the time spent with family and friends.
Our unique menu offers something for everyone and is prepared by local Cordon Bleu-trained chef Ryan Kreig and staff. There is something for everyone here, with unique dishes like the O’Callahan’s Style Pub Chips, our traditional Irish dishes like Bangers and Mash and our twist on Shepherd’s Pie with Guinness Gravy or our fresh Scottish Salmon filleted here by chef Kreig and served over a bed of Shrimp Risotto.
Of course, we serve a full selection of burgers, salads, steaks, appetizers and more, as well as one of the area’s largest draft beer selections.
We also offer one of the area’s best Sunday Brunches with crepes, waffles and egg dishes, such as our Irish Omelet and O’Danny Boy Omelet. Our Crab Cake Benedict is a show stopper as well.
We look forward to meeting you and your families and continuing the rich traditions that make local communities like Mocksville a real home that we all love to share with others.
