The Oneonta Fire and Rescue Service is a full-time municiple fire department dedicated to providing fire protection, rescue, hazmat, and EMS services to the City of Oneonta.

The Oneonta Fire and Rescue Service Department is compromised of 16 full time employees consisting of 12 line firefighters, 3 Lieutenants and a Chief. The department has two fire stations which are manned 24 hours a day and 7 days a week. Station 12 is located in downtown Oneonta and station 13 is located in the Limestone Springs community.

The Fire Department has 8 front line fire apparatus. One of Two 2010 Pierce Contenders respond to all emergencies. Each engine has A.C.L.S. Life saving capabilities. On a Normal day, there are 5 firefighters between the two stations. When a citizen of Oneonta dials 911 for a medical emergency, one ALS (Advanced Life Support) engine is dispatched. When a citizen of Oneonta dials 911 for a fire emergency, two engines, 1 ladder truck, the chief, and the fire investigator are dispatched. All firefighters are trained at the professional level as firefighters and cross trained as Paramedics and EMTs.
