Operation Open Arms connects active-duty US Servicemen/women who are battling with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, with the mental help they need.
Through a network of volunteers in Lee County, Florida and Maryland, active-duty US Troops are treated with dignity and respect while in treatment for PTSD.
OOA was founded by an ordinary fishing guide in St James City, Florida, Capt John "GiddyUp" Bunch. Because of the ill treatment/assault demonstrated by three war protesters at the Washington, DC Airport in 1970 to then 2/Lt John G. Bunch USMC he vowed to one day change and make sure no US Serviceman/women would be treated in the same manner. This single act against that young Marine has today afforded US Troops the opportunity to not only be treated with great dignity and respect, but additionally allows much needed mental health services for Post Traumatic Stress Disorder.
