Welcome
Pawleys Island, South Carolina is known to be one of the oldest summer resort communities along the East Coast and is endearingly described by its locals as "Arrogantly Shabby". Famous for the original Palweys Island Hammock and named number 8 of the top 20 favorite beaches in the United States and the Caribbean in Coastal Living on January 10, 2014, this seaside gem is located 70 miles North of Charleston and 25 miles South of Myrtle Beach. This small region is comprised of the greater Pawleys Island area and the actual 4 mile long barrier island of Pawleys (Pawleys Island). The two are separated by a salt marsh creek and the short, quaint North Causeway and South Causeway Bridges, both of which are accessible by car or foot. When crossing either bridge one will most likely pass people casting off the bridge in an attempt to bring in the catch of the day while also taking in the scenery of those kayaking, boarding, canoeing, boating, swimming, crabbing and fishing in the creek.
The Barrier Island of Pawleys offers its residents and vacationers public access ways to both the creek and ocean while the mainland offers a brand new tennis park and a multitude of renowned golf courses that have become destination favorites for golfers of all experience levels. The historic seaport City of Georgetown is approximately 10 miles South of Pawleys Island and is South Carolina's third oldest city. Here one can walk the tree lined streets boasting of majestic antebellum homes and mansions or stroll, shop and eat along the Harbor walk overlooking the river. For those who want to indulge in the rich history of the area, there are a variety of plantation tours offered from Georgetown to Charleston. No matter what the interest, Pawleys Island is a place in where families of all ages have come to create and relive life lasting memories.
