Philomath Community Services..People Helping People
Philomath Community Services, a nonprofit organization, is the parent group that has operated for the past thirty years various programs including, Philomath Food Bank, June’s Kids Kloset, Gleaners, Holiday Cheer, and Lupe's Community Garden. It also includes the new and growing Philomath Community Garden all of which provide our community with their crucial services.
The Food Bank set a new record by providing emergency food boxes for 5522 low income individuals in 2010. This year (2011) to date, we have broken all records we keep and still have several months to go.
June's Kids Kloset provided 3265 of our neighbors (including 2346 children) with clothing, diapers, formula and layettes in 2010. In three years, the number of families in need has tripled.
Philomath Gleaners provides participants with supplemental, locally grown food and firewood. Already in 2011 more than 2911 people received more than 50,000 pounds of food and over 40 cords of firewood.
Lupe's Community Garden celebrates its third year of helping our neighbors help themselves and providing more needy families with fresh produce and fruit. Participating families learn to grow some of their own food. Produce is also grown for the Food Bank and Gleaners to use.
Holiday Cheer helps bring presents and cheer to those who have missed the opportunity to receive help from other organizations. We cover thoses who may have been forgotten or overlooked.
