Physician Assistant Educational Program

The Physician Assistant Educational Program at Heritage University (PA-HU) is a 24-month program of study leading to a Master’s of Science in Physician Assistant studies (MSPA). The first year of the program will be on the Heritage University campus in Toppenish, Washington but the sites for the second (clinical) year rotations will be spread throughout the Pacific Northwest.

CURRICULUM:
Program goals are to provide a broad-based medical education, which will allow graduates to thrive in a dynamic health care environment; and to equip the students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes that are essential elements of professional practice and instill a desire for life-long learning.

The Academic year: The didactic curriculum is an organ/system-based concept with basic sciences and clinical preparatory sciences coordinated in each module. Health promotion, disease prevention, cultural sensitivity, ethics, and professionalism will all be emphasized at PA-HU.

The Clinical year: Clinical Learning Centers/Hubs will be the focus of student’s community-based clinical education. These centers will be in communities with hospitals that have an active emergency room, essential specialists, and a strong family medicine and/or internal medicine base. Students will rotate through the available specialties though out the year, while maintaining a continuity presence in a family medicine or internal medicine clinic two to three days each week.

The Physician Assistant (PA) Educational Program at Heritage University has applied for provisional accreditation from the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA). The PA Program anticipates matriculating its first class in May 2014, pending provisional accreditation in March 2014. Provisional accreditation is an accreditation status for a new PA program that has not yet enrolled students, but at the time of its comprehensive accreditation review, has demonstrated its preparedness to initiate a program in accordance with the accreditation Standards. In the event that provisional accreditation is not received, the PA Program will not commence.
