The Pine Bush Helping with Horsepower / Engineering Academy was founded for the developement and team building experience that only hands on training can provide.
The Pine Bush Helping with Horsepower and Engineering Academy is about using a motorcycle as a metaphor for the ways in which a motorcycle build can relate to persevering in life and to overcome obstacles that we all face.
Students work together to build a racing motorcycle essentially from the ground up with the help of local motorcycle shop owner, Lloyd Greer of Lloydz Motorworkz. Lloyd, who also serves as the President of the PB Board of Education, generously donates his shop, time and energy to the students of the Pine Bush STARS Academy.
Lloyd will tell you that he sees a lot of himself in many of the students, who are virtually all at risk for dropping out of high school, since he dropped out in the 10th grade. Eventually, Lloyd earned his GED and went on to found Lloydz' Motorworkz (www.loydz.com) and is now a very successful producer of performance parts for Victory Motorcycles.
With Lloyd's help the students were put into contact with Laura Klock, President and co-founder of Helping with Horsepower (www.helpingwithhorsepower.com) who began the Helping with Horsepower not-for-profit to help at-risk youth from all walks of life find meaning and coping mechanisms for the obstacles that they must overcome.
