Poets of Lorain County, Ohio

The primary function of Poets of Lorain County is to raise awareness and appreciation of the writing arts in northern Ohio, and to support and promote local poets and their work.

Poets of Lorain County is a loose collaboration involving many poets and venues in and around Lorain County. We have no board of directors and no dues are required for membership.

Poets of Lorain County has hosted featured poet and open mic events at Scott M. Duncan Photography in Elyria and at the Lorain Arts Council's 737 Gallery in Lorain, as well as a 100 Thousand Poets for Change event at Black River Reservation in September 2011. In February 2011 we hosted Snoetry 2: A Winter Wordfest, a 150-hour non-stop poetry reading intended to be the longest in history.

Poets of Lorain County has also sponsored two regular poetry readings:

November 7th 2010 through March 6th 2011 in Elyria:
Every Sunday afternoon from 1 to 3 p.m. at Jim's Coffeehouse and Diner, 2 Kerstetter Way (formerly Lake Avenue). Each session began with an open mic and concluded with performances by two featured poets (and occasional musicians).

January 20th thru May 19th 2011 in Avon Lake -
The 3rd Thursday of each month at the Avon Lake Public Library, 32649 Electric Boulevard. Featured poets and open mic.

A third regular series and a third Snoetry festival are in the works.
