The Ranse Classic is an annual charity tournament to celebrate the life of our fellow volleyball player and Fire Fighter Ransford Jones. The proceeds from this tournament will go to The Ranse Jones Stroke Awareness Fund benefitting Broward Health North.
The Ranse Classic is an annual charity tournament to celebrate the life of our fellow volleyball player and Fire Fighter Ransford Jones. Ranse was taken from this world on November 8th, 2010. In April of 2010, our amazing friend Ranse Jones experienced the unimaginable, suffering a brain aneurysm during the semi final of the Panama City AVP Young Guns tournament. In the 6 months after, Ranse was on and off life support, placed in a medically induced coma, suffered swelling of his brain, and battled an array of complicated infections. His passing happened the day after the first annual Ranse Classic 2010 which was held November 5th-7th. We ask that if you love the beach, if you're passionate about volleyball, and most importantly, if Ranse Jones in someway positively affected your life the way he affected most everyone he met, to please attend, participate, volunteer, compete, or donate for this amazing cause.
The fifth annual Ranse Classic Beach Volleyball Tournament is scheduled for November 1-2, 2014 in Deerfield Beach, FL. This tournament, the area’s largest annual reunion in beach volleyball, is in memory of Ranse Jones, a Flagler County Fireman and avid volleyball player who suffered a brain aneuryism back in 2010 while playing an AVP Young Guns Tournament. Ranse lost his battle to survive later that year. This event was begun to honor his life and raise money for stroke awareness and research. All proceeds raised from the event go to the Broward Health North Stroke Center.

Tournament Rules:
GRAB BAG DIVISIONS:
Participation on Open/AAA Grab Bag (Men’s & Women’s) will be determined based on USAV points. Please note that some adjustments to final seedings will be made based on Tournament Director’s discretion to accommodate for guest players and unseeded high level players. Space is LIMITED in Open/AAA Grab Bags so register early! Should the number of players registering for the Open/AAA Grab Bag Divisions exceed the space available, the lowest ranking (or unranked) players & last to register will be dropped to the AA/A Grab Bag Division. Grab bag team drawings will be made on Friday Night at the Pre-Party @ JBs on the Beach starting at 8:30 p.m. Tournament play will be double elimination format. USAV Beach Rules apply.
How does Grab Bag work?
Grab bag teams are determined by modified “random” selection. The names of the top 50% of players competing in each division are placed in one bag (PRO Bag), while the bottom 50% of player’s names are placed in a different bag (Amateur Bag) [Based on USAV Ranking and Director’s Discretion]. Each team will be determined by drawing 1 player from Pro bag and 1 player from Amateur bag. The 1st team drawn will fill in the #1 spot on the bracket, with each subsequent team filling in the rest of the bracket sequentially down.
COED 4’s RULES:
Costumes encouraged! Coed 4’s teams are to be 6 players MAX with 1 woman on the court at all times. Team captains to register entire team. Tournament Play will be pool play/single elimination playoffs. USAV Beach Rules apply.
All other divisions to play standard tournament play.
