What We Do
Each patient is a unique individual with unique needs and goals. We do a complete assessment of each patient, listening to their stories, and taking into account other factors that may play a role in their health. These other factors can include the patient’s work environment, family life, sleep habits, activity level, diet, and stress. From this information, we formulate a treatment strategy that is designed specifically for the individual. The aim of treatment is to restore function to the body’s biological and energetic processes in order to facilitate each person’s innate ability to heal him/herself.
Acupuncture: a system of healing that uses ultra-fine filiform needles to puncture the skin, activating the body’s bioelectrical pathways (aka “meridians”) to restore proper circulation and function to various body systems. In Oriental Medicine, we refer to the body’s bioelectricity as “Qi”.
Asian Bodywork Therapy (ABT): a system of manual therapy designed to address structural, bioelectrical, and biochemical blockages within the body that may cause pain and dysfunction. Though there are many types of ABT, our therapists are trained in Chinese manual therapy (aka “tui’na”), Japanese manual therapy (aka “shiatsu”), and acupressure.
Chinese Herbal Medicine: formulations of naturally occurring medicinal agents including plant, animal, and mineral substances that have pharmacological effects on the body. Chinese herbal medicine can be used on its own or in conjunction with other Oriental Medicine practices as well as Western pharmaceuticals. Before using Chinese herbal medicine, it is important that you inform your practitioner of any current medications, vitamins, supplements, and other herbal medicines you are taking, and if you are pregnant or nursing in order to avoid undesired interactions.
Diet and Nutrition: “You are what you eat” is exactly true. Many modern diseases and disorders are caused or exacerbated by what we put into our bodies. We use East Asian principles of “food energetics” combined with Western nutritional information to design diet plans specifically tailored for the individual’s needs and health goals.
