Black Hills Area

Rapid City is a community of 67,956 (2010) located on the eastern edge of the Black Hills in western South Dakota. Rapid City is a popular destination for travelers due to its proximity to Mt. Rushmore. Half of Rapid City lies in the mountains while the eastern half is in the flatter piedmont section. There are interesting places to go that are within the city, including the Journey Museum, Dinosaur Park (NRHP), the Museum of Geology, and the Black Hills Playhouse.
