We are a public charter middle school serving grades 6-8.
Our vision for the students is one who has strong sense of their unique self and display qualities of self-confidence; is self-motivated, self-disciplined, and self-reliant; has a strong sense of community: is compassionate, cooperative, and supportive.
River School’s healthy school culture of connection and community supports this vision for our students and is the result of efforts to nurture each student’s sense of belonging by creating opportunities to connect with their teachers and peers. When students feel connected to the adults in the school and to their peers, they feel safer emotionally, are not afraid to raise their hand in class and to take intellectual risks, and are more likely to contribute to their school community. Bullying and serious behavioral issues decline and empathy increases.
This section describes the various student groups and ways that students have a voice in the creation of their school.
