Dr. Robinson Ortiz, M.D. grew up in Westchester County, New York. He was named a national Hispanic scholar by the National Hispanic Recognition Program (NHRP) during his junior year in high school. He attended college at Cornell University and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Neurobiology and Behavior. As an undergraduate student he spent his summer months volunteering at a community hospital, which piqued his interest in medicine. He was named to the Dean’s List his final six semesters at Cornell.

Dr. Ortiz attended medical school at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, which is currently ranked as the #2 medical school in the United States by US News and World Report. While in medical school, he was the recipient of the Measy Foundation Scholarship for academic excellence (1998-2002). As a medical student he focused his clinical research on uncovering potential markers for the early detection of esophageal cancer.

In 2002 Robinson Ortiz, M.D. relocated to Chicago to continue his medical training at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. During his three-year internal medicine residency he was awarded the Excellence in Teaching award. His research interests also led to a publication in the journal Bone Marrow Transplantation. Upon graduation he became board certified in Internal Medicine.

Dr. Ortiz has been especially committed to his surrounding community. He provided free health care to uninsured patients through the Community Health Clinic in Chicago. During the academic year he educated high schools students on health related topics. In addition, he coordinated a free Summer Health center for teens. He also served as a mentor to youths through the Circle K Volunteer organization.

After completing his internal medicine residency, Robinson Ortiz, M.D. continued on to the University of Illinois at Chicago where he pursued fellowship training in both oncology and hematology. During his fellowship his research project regarding head and neck cancer was presented at the 2007 American Society of Clinical Oncology annual meeting. He was also recognized as the top-performing fellow on the 2007 American Society of Oncology in-service exam. After completing his three-year fellowship he became board certified in Medical Oncology.

Dr. Ortiz currently works in private practice with Northwest Oncology and Hematology S.C., which has been serving patients in the Chicago suburbs for over 30 years. He is credentialed at numerous hospitals in the northwest suburbs of Chicago including Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital, Advocate Sherman Hospital, Alexian Brothers Medical Center, St. Alexius Medical Center and Northwest Community Hospital. He is an active member of the Cancer Committee at Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital. He is also a member of several professional societies which include the American Society of Hematology, the American Society of Clinical Oncology and the Illinois Medical Oncology Society.

Robinson Ortiz, M.D. provides the most advanced oncologic care to each of his patients in a compassionate and caring fashion. He has always taken great pride in being a patient-oriented physician. For his dedicated work he received the 2008 and 2009 Patient’s Choice Award as a result of exemplary patient feedback. He was also recognized in the “Guide to America’s Top Oncologists” 2009 edition and named to Kipling’s Who’s Who of leading business professionals.

In 2012 he received the Good Shepherd Hospital Certificate for outstanding physician top performance in clinical integration. In 2013 he was recognized as a Healthgrades honor roll physician. He also became a member of the Community Hematology Oncology Management Services (CHOMS). In 2014 he received a BetterDoctor rating which less than 20% of all physicians nationwide receive. In addition, the International Association of Healthcare Professionals (IAHP) announced that it selected Robinson Ortiz Jr., MD, to represent oncology and hematology in the renown publication — "The Leading Physicians of the World" 2014-2015 edition. Only the top 1%-2% of physicians in each specialty are recognized in “The Leading Physicians of the World publication” as a result of medical affiliations, consumer reviews, experience, forward thinking and the highest quality of patient care.

Dr. Ortiz resides in the Northwest Chicago suburbs with his wife and two sons. In his free time he enjoys spending time with his family, photography, biographical literature, traveling, movies and supporting Chicago sports teams.
