Our farm and (coming soon) food trailer is dedicated to bringing drug and cruelty-free local food to our neighbors and to local businesses.
Personal Story: Yvonne and I have lived in the Jacksonville area our entire lives and we moved to the 'country' back in 1998. 'Country' is quoted because, since we moved to our open rural 15 acres, development has surrounded us so that we are very much a suburban area here. We are trying to grow our small farm in order to make just a humble living from our land. We value our direct-sales customers and love hearing their excellent feedback on our fresh food. In order to bring healthy food to a much wider audience, we have expanded to cooked food and catered items from our licensed commissary kitchen.
Business Description: Saint Johns Family Farm started out as just our attempt to replace as much of our own family's meat and eggs with healthy, humane and drug free food. We began when we became grandparents but it wasn't until the spring of 2010 that we started farming for others, rather than just having a few birds for our extended family's eggs and meat. Briefly stated, our goal is to produce food of the quality that we had on our family farms 200 years ago.
We are proud that we produce healthy local food utilizing only humane and sustainable methods. We don't think that bigger and standardized is better. Small, local food production with complete transparency for the customer is the solution to questions of food safety and environmental protection.
Our animals receive the kind of attention that pets normally get. Yvonne cuts daily greens for our laying flock and all our facilities are open to the open air at all times. We have absolutely no enclosed 'ammonia houses' for any of our animals and partially enclose them only to the extent needed for protection from the elements or predators.
We are in the process of trying to fund a food trailer to bring this excellent food to a wider audience in place of less healthy fast-food alternatives. While you may have heard about many "Farm to Table" movements and events, the truth is that many, if not a majority of people, lack the time or the inclination to prepare their meals using farm-fresh ingredients. "Farm to You" represents our belief that if people had easy and regularly-scheduled access to truly farm-fresh ready-to-eat food, that both the farm and our customers would benefit greatly.
"Saint Johns Family Farm to You" would bring healthy prepared food directly from our farm to multiple companies with locations around the Jacksonville and St. Augustine area. Conceptually, we would set up our food trailer at 10am for a "brunch and lunch" until about 2pm. This would allow associates of interested companies and the surrounding businesses to experience healthy food at a very reasonable price and with less effort than it would take to go to a fast food restaurant.
Whether we set up at the same location daily or once a week would depend on the companies' desires as well as their population size supporting profitability. With the proper location(s), we believe that our farm would become far more profitable, and equally importantly, result in healthier eating lunchtime habits for many people. This would benefit both us and our local community.
