San Mateo County Star FC (SAL) utilizes soccer as a vehicle through which to promote academic excellence, healthy choices, youth leadership and community

The mission of San Mateo County Star FC (SAL) is to utilize the sport of soccer as a vehicle through which to promote academic excellence, healthy choices, youth leadership and community involvement amongst economically disadvantaged and underserved youth in San Mateo County.

San Mateo County Star FC (SAL) was started in 2009 by the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Activities League (S.A.L.) not just as Soccer Club, but a community strategy that’s members and families give back to their community, maintain good academic standing, receive leadership training and become role models to the younger recreational leagues that the S.A.L. program offers to the youth of San Mateo County.

The program focuses on:
Education
Ethnics
Athletics

Over the past year, the San Mateo County STAR FC has worked with a coalition of soccer clubs in San Mateo County. Star FC has been awarded a Pre-Academy designation from the United States Soccer Federation (USSF). This program targets the best male youth soccer players from around the country. We are excited for this opportunity to provide this program and future access to national leagues and programs for the boys within our clubs and communities.

The Pre-Academy program will focus primarily on the 00/01Boys calendar age groups with some 99 Boys. If successful, this program will open up the opportunity to develop organically into a full Academy designation in the next several years. This will allow the players in our community to continue to enjoy the benefits of this national program.
