The Santa Barbara Foundation is a community foundation established in 1928 to enrich the lives of Santa Barbara County residents through philanthropy.
We facilitate the building of philanthropy. As a value added partner to philanthropy at every level, from one time individual donors to those wishing to create philanthropic legacies, the Santa Barbara Foundation connects people to causes that matter. The foundation is home to over 200 individual and agency funds as well as five collective giving groups who are an integral part of the foundation family.
We work to strengthen the nonprofit sector. Through grants, counsel, and educational opportunities available to all nonprofit organizations in the county, the Santa Barbara Foundation strengthens nonprofit organizations – helping them fulfill their missions, working together to address community needs and affect positive change. Funding is provided across all issue areas, with nonprofits able to access dollars and knowledge through grants from unrestricted funds throughout the year.
We identify and strategically address community needs. The foundation seeks to solve the region’s most critical problems, while taking advantage of emerging opportunities. Through research, public convenings and education, strategic grantmaking, and funding initiatives, the foundation provides leadership to meet evolving community needs.
