After 2015, Monroeville will no longer be awarded the rights to produce To Kill a Mockingbird as a play. Monroeville is the hometown of author Harper Lee.

Monroeville, Ala. is the birthplace of Harper Lee, author of To Kill a Mockingbird, and after 2015 a play that has been produced for 27 years will no longer be licensed to perform.
The licensing firm, Dramatic Publishing Co. of Illinois, will not grant the rights to Monroeville, literally the birthplace of Harper Lee and one of the most beloved stories of all time.
